This poem I wrote for creative writing. We had to choose a song and incorporate a line or two of its lyrics into a poem.

A vision in the silent hours
Flickers blue before your eyes,
The world burns in wildfire
As day turns night with molten skies.

Just stop your crying, it’s a sign of the times.

A chill wings through the bedroom window,
Your pulsing skin turns cold as brass,
Earth’s rotting race stings your nostrils
And icy fingers grip a globe of glass.

Just stop your crying, it’s a sign of the times.

Sinister shadows creep in the night,
The sun grows tired and pale,
Scorpions steal into the cradle
And stars retreat beyond the veil.

Just stop your crying, it’s a sign of the times.

Snakes slither in the garden,
Wolves step frank amongst the flock,
Crowds tiptoe as they go
On shifting sands in search of rock.

Just stop your crying, it’s a sign of the times.

Children watch their parents weep,
Monsters hide beneath bed no more,
Demons taunting, whisper in your ear
And you can’t shake the fear, the fear.

Just stop your crying, it’ll be alright.

The blackness is not complete.
A gentle ray affirms the day,
Falling on your baby’s feet.

Through the mist, a songbird sings
A gentle tune cutting the gloom,
Reverberating firmly, it rings and rings.

Just stop your crying, it’ll be alright.

Your little one’s rosy warmth reminds
You the world holds more than monsters,
And fear holds no power here
Where new light blooms in your arms.
